Erskineville - Where smart buyers buy

Suburb Profile

20 July 2016

Sydney's Inner-West suburb of Erskineville is experiencing a coming of age in the residential space this year. For those in the know the area has long had a village vibe with a thriving community, including a few celebrity residents such as Daniel Johns and Natalie Imbruglia.

David Milton, Managing Director at CBRE Residential Projects recently appeared on Sunrise highlighting the value behind buying off the plan versus established and provided one hot tip to future buyers – location adds value, so look at buying near the city, with his pick being Erskineville.

Erskineville is close to Sydney’s CBD with only two stations to Central Station plus it has great access to near-by Universities, Sydney University and UTS – the area offers better value than neighbouring Alexandria. Erskineville in comparison to suburbs like Burwood and Strathfield has a greater realised potential providing investors with a greater chance of solid capital growth. Famous for its charming and historic terrace houses, the number of affordable housing in the past was limited due to the overwhelming size of the industrial zone. However, recently more residential space has opened up with smart buyers and astute investors rushing to buy in this largely overlooked part of Sydney.

"The beauty of Erskineville is that it has a thriving community on the very doorstep to the City, yet with affordable prices", says David Milton, Managing Director at CBRE Residential Projects.

In keeping with past architectural structural traditions a handful of developers have sought to preserve the charm of 2 bedroom split level terrace homes by recreating them. An example is the recent residential project at 1A Coulson St. Erskineville aptly called One A.

"One A's architecture draws inspiration from the village traditions and vibrant streetscapes of Erskineville in a way that’s truly refreshing. It’s ideal for a young family or busy professionals as the homes come with 1, 2 or 3 beds", adds Milton. The project’s award-winning architects and designers, KANNFINCH, Breakspear and BKH have collaborated closely to produce an exceptional vision for contemporary village living that integrates effortlessly with the neighbourhood.
