Construction Update - Greenland Centre

7 March 2017

Here is the latest news on the construction of Sydney's tallest residential tower.

Background on the project
The Greenland Centre will integrate the existing former Sydney Water building at 115-119 Bathurst Street into a new residential block, rising 67 floors into the Sydney skyline. It will be Sydney’s tallest residential tower at 235-metres. Phase One of the project, 5-star Primus Hotel Sydney at 339 Pitt Street, opened in December 2015.
The existing building’s steel frame must partly be retained. Scaffolding commenced in July 2016 and the entire building was covered last September. Hundreds of flexible Echo BarrierTM noise blankets follow the work zone. Demolition by principal contractor Delta Group is expected until at least May this year, followed by construction until late 2019.
Work during the month ahead

Jackhammers, concrete saws and other tools are being used to remove sections of concrete and reinforcing steel. Water is being sprayed and truck loads covered. Scaffolds are in place, in accordance with the Construction Environmental Management Plan. Traffic controllers ensure safe pedestrian and vehicle movements.

Major work by Delta:
  • Demolition and retention of the existing upper floors, including breaking concrete slabs and removing concrete from steel beams and columns;
  • Perimeter scaffold removal as upper floors are dismantled;
  • Demolition and retention of the lower floors, including saw cutting concrete slabs, removing concrete from steel beams and columns and breaking concrete into small pieces for removal;
  • Excavation and localised demolition along the southern boundary, including soil nail anchor installation;
  • Internal demolition above the ground floor; and
  • Formwork construction and a concrete pour on the ground floor.
